Abstract: Internationally renowned experts have provided data on their own studies, and discuss the relative usefulness of their work in relation to diabetic nephropathy. The first section describes the novel role of intrarenal renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and oxidative stress in the development of diabetic nephropathy and discusses the current and novel pharmacological interventions in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy. The second section discusses other important contributors outside of the RAAS in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy including AGE/RAGE, epithelial-mesenchymal-transition (EMT) and immune cytokines.
